Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mixing?

Mixing is the process of finding a balance between the drums, bass, guitars, vocals and other elements in your song. A proper mix will utilize compression, EQ, as well as effects like reverb, delay and even tuning to ensure that your song is as acoustically pleasing as possible.

Does my song need to be mixed?

Yes. A proper mix of your song or songs is essential to ensure that your music can compete with the attention of the modern music listener.

How do I prepare my tracks to send off for Mixing?

The first order of business will be to clean up/edit any individual tracks, make any final comps needed on certain tracks, and consolidate each track so they all start at the beginning of the session. All Digital Audio Workstations can consolidate tracks, but some may call it something else. If you're not sure, do some research or contact me before sending your music out. This step is absolutely critical and if it is done properly it allows me to begin work on your music immediately as opposed to taking a day just to assemble your session. For each song, export these newly consolidated tracks to a new folder (Song Name - Audio Files), compress that folder into a ZIP file and email it to highnoonaudio@gmail.com

How do I prepare my tracks to send off for Mastering?

Bounce/Export your mix with little to no limiting or compression on the master bus. When doing this make careful note that the bounce is interleaved (not multiple mono) and also that the sample rate and bit rate match that of the session. Put each of the songs in a new folder (Album/Project Title - Final Mixes), compress this folder as a ZIP files and email it to highnoonaudio@gmail.com

Do you Master for different mediums?

Yes, once I finish your masters I will send you a folder containing .wav files and .mp3s of your music mastered for Streaming Services and for CDs. If you would also like a set of masters for vinyl I can do that for an additional fee.

Ok, so let's work together! Now what?

The first step once you've prepared your music for mixing or mastering is to go to the Quote page. Once there, you'll be prompted to enter in certain details about your project, like what services you require, how many versions do you need to be printed (acapellas, instrumentals, etc) if you'd like to print your mix through analogue tape and the latest date you need your project finished by. Once I have this information from you I will reach out and after paying a 50% deposit I will begin work on your project.

How will I get my mixes/masters back from you?

Google Drive is my preferred way to send audio back to clients, but WeTransfer, Dropbox and other cloud based services are fine as well if you’d prefer. If you’d like a physical CD for your final masters we can arrange that as well.

Do you do revisions?

I will include two revisions per song on a project at no additional cost. Make a detailed list of the changes you'd like on each song and I will make the requested changes immediately and resend the material back to you. It's important to me that you walk away 100% satisfied and I'll do anything you need to make sure that happens. That being said any revisions beyond the initial two will require an additional fee.

Can I book an in person recording session?

My space at the moment is small, but I can comfortably record a singer, guitarist, bassist or keyboardist. If you’d like to record a project with drums or a full band, reach out to me first and we can discuss your project and budget. As my recording space grows, so will the types of clients and I projects I take on.

I’ve read all of this and I am still confused. Can you help me?

I am always available and always ready to answer any question you have, big or small. The primary job for any musician should be to focus on music, not how to make their computer jump through hoops. While the following FAQs cover some basic information about the mixing and mastering process, every project has its own unique challenges and I'm always open to talk about them with you. If you have any questions about anything in this process, or if you just want to talk in detail about your project, send me an email and I’ll respond as soon as I can.
